0 A.D. free RTS game is an open source and free game that began as a total conversion mod to Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings back in 2001. The 0 A.D. free RTS game project was released as open source with Wildfire Games releasing the source code in 2009.
0 A.D. was released in March of 2016 in an alpha state and game play of the first release centers around the years 500 B.C. to 1 B.C. The second phase of development/release for 0 A.D will center around the years 1 A.D. to 500 A.D.0 A.D. free RTS game features many of the standard game play features found in most real time strategy games including base building, resource management and harvesting, unit training and warfare.
With the initial release of 0 A.D., there are 12 playable civilizations from classical antiquity.Each civilization is represented in the game at the peak of their power, which is not historically accurate but done for the sake of game play and balance. Units are unique for each civilization with land and sea units being available.
The game also feature technologies which are researched at buildings and modify abilities/powers of a civilization’s units. 0 A.D. free RTS game also features a full single player mode as well as a multiplayer mode on skirmish style maps.
0 A.D. is available for Microsoft Windows, OS X and Linux operating systems. As of November 2016, the game is still under development so expect changes and updates as new features are developed.
